मुंशी प्रेमचंद की ऐतिहासिक कुर्सी अब एक प्रतीक है—सच्चे लेखन, मूल्यों और विचारों की अडिगता का। पर आज का लेखक इस कुर्सी की स्थिरता नहीं, उसकी रिवॉल्विंग खोजता है—जो सत्ता, समीक्षकों और विमोचन मंडलियों की दिशा में घूम सके। प्रेमचंद की फटी चप्पलें तो स्वीकार हैं, पर उनकी कुर्सी का सीधा-सरल डिज़ाइन नहीं। आज की कुर्सियाँ चिपकने वाली हैं, घूमने वाली हैं, कई पहियों वाली हैं। लेखक का संघर्ष अब सृजन का नहीं, कुर्सी को हथियाने और बचाने का हो गया है। प्रेमचंद की कुर्सी आज भी अडिग है—क्योंकि उसमें गोंद नहीं था, केवल आत्मा थी।
