Today is International Biodiversity Day. It is celebrated every year on 22 May all over the world. It was first celebrated in the year 1993. At that time it was celebrated on 29th December. After this, since 2001, it is celebrated every year on 22 May. Its main objective is to make people aware of biodiversity. This year’s theme is We’re part of the solution #ForNature. After this it was celebrated on 29th December till the year 2000. Since 2001, this year is celebrated on 22 May. Significance of International Day of Biodiversity In modern times, there is a need to pay attention to the topic of biodiversity. According to a report, in the coming time, 25 percent of the plant and animal species are in the extinct state. For this IPBES has advised environmental protection.
