✨ Introduction to the Review ✨
The well-known humorist, blogger, and satirist Dr. Ankit Sharma—who is not just a “doctor by name” but also a doctor by profession—recently read my book Roses and Thorns. What follows is exactly the feedback I received from him.

Roses and Thorns by Dr Mukesh Garg Aseemit
Essentially a collection of satirical essays, Dr Mukesh Aseemit ji knocks it out of the park with a few pieces and hits a few boundaries along the way as well. I will not bore anyone with done-to-death lines like “makes you chuckle at places while making you think”, or use orthopaedic puns to gather more attention for my (nonexistent) wit rather than his work. Instead, I will highlight the points that made me subjectively enjoy the book.
1. Variety of topics.
Topics come from personal life, societal issues, professional circles as well as politics. So, reading it in one go won’t make you feel like reading some social-media-warrior-level ‘same old political commentary’.
2. Connect with the reader.
The preface makes you feel that you’re about to sit on a comfy sofa and let a friend pour his heart out to you. That’s a comfortable feeling while reading non-fiction. The quality of the satire helps you to stay and appreciate the discussion, which makes for that nice feeling of “perhaps one more chapter before putting it down”.
3. Fluency and ease.
These are essentially translations of some of Dr Mukesh’s best works. The reader inside me is happy that he gave more stress on the message and readability of the prose, rather than fitting in ‘Tharoorian’ vocabulary while translating his pieces. Instead of complementing him on “how he has evinced literary finesse with eloquence”, I’d simply say that he’s written rather very well, and that’d be my ‘short review’ for his book, too.
