In this era of Corona, the world is fighting a war on many fronts simultaneously. There is a front of starvation in this. Particularly in developing and poor countries, there is a big fight with starvation. We show you some pictures, seeing which we will all suffer a lot.
On Wednesday, a charity camp was set up in the slums of Pretoria city in South Africa, in which eight thousand packets of food were to be distributed. A crowd of thousands gathered. When these people were put in a line, this line became four kilometres long. Think, what kind of situation are these, when people are forced to take four-four km line to eradicate hunger.
South Africa has been under lockdown for five weeks due to Coronavirus. There are about five and a half thousand cases of corona and more than 100 people have died. In South Africa, starvation was a major problem even before Corona and now how serious this problem has become due to lockdown. This can be understood by looking at these pictures.
The Corona epidemic does not discriminate between rich and poor, but in this hour of crisis, hunger is discriminating. Which is making poor countries their biggest victims, but in Corona era, this food crisis is not the only problem of poor countries. A few days ago, In America also, due to the lockdown millions of people have become unemployed and have become dependent on donors to feed themselves.
America has the highest number of corona infected patients in the world. More than two crore people have lost their jobs due to lockdown and these unemployed people are now dependent on the food bank. Food banks are called such non-governmental organizations that deliver food to needy people. Nowadays in America, these institutions have increased the challenge of supplying more and more food.
Such pictures are coming out from many cities which have long lines of cars outside the food bank. Such a crisis has never been seen in America.
Seeing such pictures, there is a debate in the whole world whether there should be a lockdown or not. Many people are not in favour of lockdown, they say, if the lockdown continues like this, more deaths from coronavirus will result in starvation. The World Food Program, a global organization fighting against hunger, has warned that the world is struggling with the Corona epidemic,
On the verge of a starvation epidemic. The WFP report states that 13.5 million people around the world are facing a starvation crisis or worse. Due to the corona and lockdown, and 130 million people, by the end of this year, will be on the verge of starvation.
It has also been said in the report that there are three crore people all over the world who are completely dependent on the help of WFP to stay alive. If the situation does not improve, then within three months such a situation will happen that every day, three lakh people in the whole world will die of hunger. The WFP estimates that there may be a drought in about 36 countries in the worst-case scenario and that ten of them are in countries with more than 1 million people already suffering from starvation.
These include poor countries like Yemen, Congo, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Sudan and Nigeria.
The WFP receives financial support from the United States, Britain, Germany, Japan and other developed countries, which themselves are currently most affected by the Corona epidemic. The United Nations says that if these countries stop or reduce economic aid, the world will face an unprecedented situation of starvation.
