It is known that celebrating Girl’s Day at the international level was started as a project of a non-governmental organization ‘Plan International’. This organization also started a campaign called Kekaan Ek Ladki Hoon. The Government of Canada was approached to expand this campaign internationally. The Government of Canada introduced this resolution in the 55th General Assembly and the United Nations finally passed the resolution on 19 December 2011. October 11 was fixed for International Girl Child Day and since 2012 it has been celebrated every year.
